Many children are currently unable to access education, are placed on reduced timetables, are being home-schooled, or are awaiting a suitable school placement. Limited access to education within a structured setting can have significant negative impacts on a child’s emotional and social well-being. These challenges often present as anxiety and mood difficulties, delays in developing social skills, difficulties forming and maintaining secure friendships, and challenges in managing conflict.
Research shows that children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEN/D) are at a higher risk of school exclusion, abuse, exploitation, and poor mental health. These factors can further reduce their social opportunities and sense of belonging.
In my role as an accredited High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and registered Social Worker, I have supported many children with SEN/D who are struggling to return to education or to have their needs appropriately met. I offer tailored support and guidance to schools to facilitate the successful reintegration of children with SEN/D into educational environments. Working collaboratively with the child and their family, I help to create a personalised plan designed to reduce anxiety and equip the child with effective emotional-regulation strategies.
