How Therapy Works

I offer structured, practical CBT for adults and children aged 8+, focused on helping you understand and change the patterns behind anxiety, low mood, and emotional difficulties.


This is not open-ended talking therapy. It is a focused process of identifying what is keeping things stuck, and working to create change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is often described as a "doing" therapy. CBT is based on the understanding that thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours are interconnected.


When difficulties persist, it is often because these systems are reinforcing each other in a cycle.


In practice, this means we work with:


  • how you interpret situations 
  • how your body responds 
  • what you do next (avoidance, reassurance, overthinking, etc.) 


Change happens by interrupting the cycle at key points. By changing the way we think and act, we can positively influence how we feel.

What to Expect

Sessions are structured and collaborative. We will:


  • map out what is happening for you in detail 
  • identify repeating patterns that keep you stuck 
  • develop practical ways to interrupt those patterns 
  • apply strategies between sessions so change builds in real life

The Way I Work

Alongside CBT, I draw on approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), depending on your needs.


Some people need practical tools and behavioural change quickly. Others need more time understanding emotional patterns first.


We'll balance both, but always with a clear focus on change.

When you change how you respond to thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, you can break the cycle that keeps things going.
